USMNT Qualifies for Qatar, USMNT Makes A Deep Tourney Run?
Updated: Jun 27, 2023

Hallelujah! The United States men’s national team has qualified for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The USA was drawn into Group B, which could be better but could be much worse. Although their group is not set the USA should feel confident that they will get through. It’s not likely the USA win the group but they should advance by reaching second in the group.
The US will open up against England and will aim to upset England once more. The USA upset them in a major battle but now aims to do the same on the pitch in Qatar. If the USA defeat England in the opening match they could not only move on but win the group.
The USA will then play Iran which is no push-over. In the final group stage match the USA will play the winner of the playoff. The winner of Ukraine vs Scotland will then have to defeat Wales to make it to Qatar for the right to play in Group B.
The USA should handle Iran, but they can not overlook the Iranian national team who could easily play spoiler in this group. The Iranian national team could very well find a way to move on by reaching second in the group with upsets and chaos striking within the group.
If you are a USA fan you do not want to see Wales or Scotland in Qatar, as they have the ability to defeat the USA as well Iran. Both teams would play England tough, which could be a nightmarish scene for USA fans come match day three.
The USA could make a run to the final eight this year. Once you get there it’s just one game at a time, this young group could do damage in their first World Cup. The USA cannot be looking too far ahead of their own group. Especially if Wales or Scotland make it from the playoff. This group will either be great or terrible for the USA, especially starting off against England. Starting against England will either give the USA confidence right away pending a positive result (points or a close contest). On the other hand, the USA playing England could destroy their mindset if it's an ugly result.
I think the young guns of the USA will get the job done, with a positive performance that allows them to find success in this tournament. Their ceiling is reaching the quarter-finals but the floor for this squad could be not even making it out of Group B.
