(2) Marquette vs (15) Vermont, a game that many expected to be one-sided through and through for one of the top teams in the nation and champions of the Big East Marquette. The story of the first half at Nationwide arena was elite ball movement and elite shooting. Headed into halftime both teams were on pace to beat their seasonal averages in assists per game. While seeing both sides shooting red hot! In the first half, Vermont shot 48% from the field and 50% from the three-point line. While Marquette who held the lead at halftime 39-30, shot 50% from the field and 45.5% from three.

The first 9 minutes of the second half were quite the same, but after the under-12 media break in the second half the Golden Eagles kicked it into overdrive. The Golden Eagles of Marquette dominated the remaining 11 minutes. Vermont didn’t shy away from the challenge but were just outmanned as nearly every shot the Golden Eagles took found the bottom of the net.

The Golden Eagles of Marquette soar into the second round, with a dominant second-half performance. Before a four-minute scoring slump (while up 17), the Golden Eagles were shooting 64% from the field and 72% from three. The Golden Eagles ended the second half shooting 54% from the field and 56% from three while Vermont froze in the second half shooting 39% from the field and 15% from three.

The Golden Eagles were led by Kam Jones, who went off for 18 points in the second half finishing with a total of 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in 23 minutes of action.

The Golden Eagles will be taking on (7) Michigan State on Sunday at Nationwide Arena following their 17-point win vs (15) Vermont.
